Getting Started

Now that you have graduated from ‘Crypto is a scam; I don’t believe in it’ to ‘This sounds interesting; help me get started,’ you can proceed to the most important step—buying your first crypto. Buying crypto depends on your chosen method: Decentralized exchange (DEX) or Centralized exchange (CEX). Using a CEX is simple—it is almost like opening a bank account.
You start by setting up logins, submitting KYC (meaning personally identifiable information), transferring fiat money, and then buying/selling/trading your favorite tokens all while staying within the confines of the CEX.
Our recommended CEX is , if it is available in your country. Other popular ones are Binance and Coinbase. But if you want to navigate the crypto forest, you’ll start with a DEX. Depending on your chosen chain, you will need a compatible wallet and that chain’s native token for transaction fees. For example, if you want to start with the Ethereum chain, you can install (our recommended wallet) and load up some $ETH into your wallet. Now, I know this might be confusing for you, dragon hatchlings. Don’t worry — I got you. Let’s start by setting up your Rabby wallet. We highly recommend using Rabby because its user interface is best suited for beginners and has better features than MetaMask, another leading wallet company.
If you already have a MetaMask account, you can easily import your MetaMask wallet to Rabby in just a few clicks.
Step 1: Download the Rabby wallet extension
Note: We recommend using the ‘Brave’/ ‘Google Chrome’ browsers and browser extensions. Step 2: Set up the wallet by noting the ‘Seed Phrase’ and creating a password.
If you've already bought some crypto and it’s sitting on a centralized exchange (CEX) or in any other wallet, the process is quite straightforward. Tap the 'Receive' option within your Rabby wallet extension and select the desired blockchain network. This will provide you with a unique address for that specific chain.
Now, head to your existing wallet on the CEX you’re using and look for the 'Withdrawal' or 'Send' option. Carefully copy the address from your Rabby wallet and paste it into the recipient field. Now, click send, and you’ll receive your funds in Rabby (after a short processing time).
If you're new and don’t have any crypto yet, no need to fret! PUFF University has got your back. The second method for transferring crypto to your Rabby wallet involves purchasing directly from a centralized exchange (CEX).
First, you'll need a reputable CEX platform. Here, you can transfer your local currency from your bank account and use it to buy a stablecoin like USDT or USDC. Then, using the ‘Swap/Convert' option, you can swap your stablecoins for any listed assets on the exchange.
Now, if you want to interact with a DEX, you first need the native token to cover the transaction fees for the blockchain you’ll be using. For example, if you plan to interact with the Ethereum network, you'll want to swap your USDT/USDC for ETH.
If you're exploring the Binance Smart Chain, you'll need BNB. And for the Solana blockchain, you’ll want to use SOL. The key is to match the crypto you purchase to the network you intend to use. Once you have purchased the crypto, the withdrawal process is the same as I described in Method 1.
